چکیده

Two distinct hemolysins were demonstrated in Vibrio parahaemolyticus. A thermostable direct hemolysin purified from V. parahemolyticus WP-1, a Kanagawa phenomenon (KP)-positive strain, is antigenically different from a thermolabile hemolysin produced by V. parahaemolyticus T-3454, a KP-negative strain. The thermostable direct hemolysin was found in KP-positive strains but not in KP-negative strains. On the other hand, the thermolabile hemolysins were found in both KP-positive and -negative strains, although some KP-positive strains did not produce this hemolysin.

Production of hemolysin by Vibrio parahaemolyticus in a chemically defined medium.

A chemically defined medium capable of supporting the production of heat-stable and heat-labile hemolysins by Vibrio parahaemolyticus is described. The indispensability of serine and glutamic acid for hemolysin production is also demonstrated.

Effect of heat (Arrhenius effect) on crude hemolysin of Vibrio parahaemolyticus.

Crude hemolysins prepared from various strains of Vibrio parahaemolyticus, which give positive Kanagawa phenomenon, were partly inactivated by heating at 60 C, but not inactivated significantly by heating at 80 to 90 C. The similar phenomenon has been reported as the Arrhenius effect in staphylococcal alpha toxin.

Antigenicity of lateral flagella of Vibrio parahaemolyticus: existence of two distinct antigenic determinants in a flagellum.

Cells of Vibrio parahaemolyticus treated with Formalin agglutinated with anti-lateral flagella antiserum. On the basis of agglutination tests, antigens of lateral flagella were divided into three groups. HL1, HL2, and HL3. However, in gel diffusion tests, flagellins prepared from strains belonging to different groups showed a common antigenicity. It is assumed that these results are due to the ...

Vibrio parahaemolyticus: a review on the pathogenesis, prevalence, and advance molecular identification techniques

Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a Gram-negative halophilic bacterium that is found in estuarine, marine and coastal environments. V. parahaemolyticus is the leading causal agent of human acute gastroenteritis following the consumption of raw, undercooked, or mishandled marine products. In rare cases, V. parahaemolyticus causes wound infection, ear infection or septicaemia in individuals with pre-exi...

Antibiotic resistance of Vibrio parahaemolyticus isolated from pond-reared Litopenaeus vannamei marketed in natal, brazil

Ten out of fifty fresh and refrigerated samples of shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) collected from retailers in Natal (Rio Grande do Norte, Northeastern Brazil) tested positive for Vibrio parahaemolyticus. The Kanagawa test and multiplex PCR assays were used to detect TDH and TRH hemolysins and the tdh, trh and tlh genes, respectively. All strains were Kanagawa-negative and tlh-positive. Antibioti...
